Altamanu Inc., as part of a design team, worked with the Chicago Department of Transportation to assist in the development of the design of improvements to North Broadway and Lawrence Avenue in the Uptown Neighborhood of Chicago.
Broadway was transformed into a complete street with cycle tracks added and traffic through-lanes reduced. Roadway geometry was redesigned to provide space for expanded sidewalks and cross walks. Tree now soften the character of the street and provide shade to new plaza/ "people spaces".
The large multi-colored wheel known as "The Uptown Circle" was installed in a new plaza outside the famous Riviera music venue. Altamanu worked with the community on its design. It represents the diverse community and the 97 Languages spoken in the neighborhood.
The new plaza was created by realigning and pedestrianizing a stretch of Racine Avenue. It will be used for outdoor restaurants and special events.
